International Year of Evaluation
This year, 2015, has been designated by the United Nations as the International Year of Evaluation. This site is one of our contributions to this special year.
The Sustainable Development Goals
The United Nations has launched the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to signal a new set of results for the international community to achieve over the next 15 years. In each SDG, there are specific targets and indicators that will be tracked by country and aggregated for the world. Innovative forms of development finance, and new private-public collaborations, will be essential to the success of this strategy. Impact investing, therefore, can play a key role in enabling the implementation of the SDGs. And so must independent and systematic evaluation of this form of development intervention.
OECD Standards and Guidelines
The Development Assistance Committee of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has developed a valuable set of standards and guidelines for planning and conducting development evaluations. We endorse and pledge to adhere to these instruments in our own work, and recommend them to you, as well. To view them, click OECD.
IRIS and GIIRS: Industry-Wide Metrics and Systems
Over the past five years, the impact investing industry has been working hard to develop a set of shared metrics and systems. One important initiative is the Impact Reporting and Investment Standards system, known as IRIS, which is refining a common set of results indicators and terminology for the impact investing sector. A second key project is the Global Impact Investing Rating System, known as GIIRS, which provides a framework and methodology for rating funds and companies aimed at achieving financial and social returns.
