On October 20, 2015, a lecture and panel discussion was organized in Accra entitled Impact Investing: Strategies for Mobilizing Private Capital for Ghana’s Transformation Agenda. Co-sponsored by the Venture Capital Trust Fund of Ghana, the GIMPA Centre for Impact Investing, and the Rockefeller Foundation, the event drew key players active in private equity investing in local SMEs as well as senior policy makers from the Bank of Ghana and Ministry of Finance as well as other key stakeholder groups. Definitions of impact investing, models for investing in small business and green energy, and evaluating the theory of change of impact investments were among the topics discussed by speakers and participants.
Dr. Edward Jackson, President of E. T. Jackson and Associates, gave the lecture, which focused on experience and models in impact investing from around the world and across Africa. Ms. Hamdiya Ismalia, General Manager of the VCTF, and Prof. Godfred Amewu, Coordinator of GCII, provided comments from the perspective of their organizations. The event was chaired by HE Dr. Sulley Gariba, a noted policy and evaluation expert.
